It is a scientific fact that a human body weight consist 60% water. A human body uses water in all its organs and cells for proper functioning of the body. It is very essential to keep our body hydrated as our body loses water through digestion, sweating and breathing. Water is the most essential elements and also prevents dehydration.

Health Benefits of Drinking Water

There are number of benefits of drinking water. Few of them are listed below:

  • It removes the excessive waste from the body: Sufficient water intake helps to excrete waste through urination and perspiration. It also prevents constipation by softening your stools.
  • It helps in digestion: Our digestion starts in our mouth only by saliva. As the saliva helps to break down food and dissolve the minerals and nutrients. Soluble fiber is also digested properly with the proper intake of water.
  • It regulated temperature of the body: Through perspiration our body controls the over-heating of our body and it is only possible because of the proper amount of water present in our body.
  • It lubricates our joint muscles: The water present in our body helps in proper functioning of the joint muscles. As the person grows older, the water intake acts as a lubricant to the joints.
  • Moisten the skin: Sufficient water makes our skin glow and maintains the texture and appearance of our skin.

Daily intake of fluid

Every age group has its own demand and need for the intake of fluids. Fluid needed by an infant will differ from the fluid intakes of a young person. Following listed are the amounts of fluid needed by every age group:

  • 0-6 months: 1-2 cups from mother’s milk
  • 7-12 months: 3 cups from mother’s milk and other drinks and food
  • 1-3 years: at least 4 cups a day
  • 4-8 years: 5 cups a day
  • 9-13 years: 6 cups a day
  • 14-18 years: 7-8 cups a day
  • Adult: 10 cups a day

Above mentioned are the minimum quantity that should be consumed by the respective age-group.

Dehydration

When the fluid level in our body is too low then our body is prone to dehydration. It can be fixed by increasing the fluid consumption. The symptoms of dehydration are: headaches, lethargy, weakness, tiredness, thirst, hallucinations, mood changes and cracked skin or lips. Dehydration can turn to be worst if not treated on right time because our kidneys stops functioning when there is not enough fluid in our body.

In case you are not sure about the water level in your body then you can easily keep check by noticing the color of your urine. The more pale color the urine have, the less amount of fluids are there in your body and if it is clear then you are good. Our body is resilient and in case you treat it well and do proper care then the body’s natural ability to heal itself will increase.
